INEOS Grenadier Service and Off-Road Builds
BMW-Powered 4×4 Repair, Maintenance and Upgrades in Humble, TX
Quick Takeaways
- Service first: scheduled maintenance, diagnostics and repair for both the Station Wagon and the Quartermaster pickup.
- A German drivetrain in a work truck: INEOS pairs BMW engines with a ZF eight-speed automatic — the exact hardware our ASE-Certified technicians handle every week.
- Build work too: off-road tires and wheels, suspension lifts, armor and rock sliders, bumpers, recovery points, roof-load setups.
- Respect the factory kit: 10.4 inches of ground clearance, front and rear skid plates and a Tremec two-speed transfer case are already standard.
- Find us: 2006 Rotary Dr, Humble, TX 77338, minutes off US-59/I-69.

Plenty of shops in northeast Houston look at a Grenadier and reach for the generic 4×4 playbook. That’s a mistake. Under the hood is a BMW inline engine; behind it, a ZF eight-speed automatic — the same combination Motorwerks Auto Group has been diagnosing and repairing for years. Everything below the floor is old-school truck: a box-sectioned ladder frame, Carraro beam axles, a galvanized steel body. Everything above it follows German service practice. Most of what a Grenadier needs from us is maintenance and repair. The build work stacks on top.
The Grenadier Runs BMW Power Through a ZF Eight-Speed
INEOS pairs BMW engines with a ZF eight-speed automatic, so your Grenadier’s service schedule reads much more like a 5 Series than a ranch truck, right down to oil specification and post-service adaptation resets. That’s German practice. Not domestic-truck practice.
Which is why the routine work belongs here rather than at a general 4×4 shop. Same bays. Same scan tools. Oil services, cooling repairs, electrical faults, transmission concerns and brakes all follow the diagnostic approach we already use on fourteen European marques. The ladder frame underneath changes nothing about what the engine wants.

Towing and Houston Heat Land on the Cooling System
The Grenadier is rated to tow up to 7,716 pounds, and a loaded trailer on I-69 in August asks more of the cooling system than most trails ever will. Heat is the failure mode here. Coolant condition, fan behavior, thermostat operation and transmission temperature under sustained load are all worth checking before a long haul rather than after one.
Add a build and the margins get thinner. Bigger tires, a winch and a roof tent raise drag and weight, and the same radiator has to absorb all of it. So we look at the whole stack together. One part at a time misses it.
Tires Are the First Upgrade Worth Paying For
A proper all-terrain or mud-terrain tire changes how a Grenadier drives more than any other single part. It also changes your speedometer reading, your effective gearing and your tire-pressure thresholds. Three things builds quietly get wrong. NHTSA recorded 511 traffic fatalities in tire-related crashes in 2024, which is reason enough to treat load rating as a hard spec instead of a preference you shade toward whatever looks best on the wheel.
One Grenadier-specific point: it ships with a full-size spare on a matching wheel, and it should stay matching. Buy five tires, not four. On a permanent four-wheel-drive system a mismatched rolling circumference works the transfer case every mile you drive, and a Tremec unit is not a cheap thing to be casual about.
Lifts and Armor Get Budgeted in Pounds, Not Inches
The Grenadier already gives you 10.4 inches of ground clearance and skid plates front and rear, so the honest first question is how much more you need. Every inch you add raises the center of gravity of a vehicle that is already tall and already heavy. IIHS figures for 2024 show that rollovers accounted for 33% of SUV occupant deaths and 38% of pickup occupant deaths.
Here’s our position. Two inches installed properly — corrected geometry, correct spring rate, brake lines and driveline angles sorted — beats four inches installed fast. Same thinking on armor and roof gear. INEOS rates the roof at 330 pounds moving and 925 pounds parked, and those two numbers decide the tent, not the brochure.

East Texas Mud and Water Decide Your Post-Trip Service
Wading Mode lets a Grenadier cross up to 800 millimeters of water with the engine fans switched off, and the cabin has drain plugs in the floor for whatever gets in anyway. None of that means the truck comes home clean underneath. Clay from the Lake Houston bottoms packs into control-arm pockets and dries like concrete.
So the trip isn’t over when you park. Axle and driveline breathers get checked, fluids get inspected for water intrusion, brake hardware gets cleaned, and every bolt-on gets re-torqued. Do that after each serious run. A built Grenadier will still behave like a civil daily driver on FM 1960.
